PHS start beyond Round Island

Waglan 10-12

The start line was moved beyond Round Island for better wind and, at 1100 on Sunday, the 22nd of February, five racing machines set off on Course 15 (S) in 5 knots of breeze. Then came the seven PHS boats, following the same course. Would the wind hold as they headed for Castle Rock and Beaufort Island? It did for the faster boats, the cruisers found the going tough.

Back through the Beaufort / Po Toi gap, Arcturus+ was the first boat home on a shortened course, and deservedly scored a 1st in IRC 2 on handicap. Redeye, with Kalina King driving, took the honours in IRC 1.

Competition was stiff in PHS A but, with skill and experience counting, Pascal Martin helmed his Jeanneau 42, Skywalker, to victory. In PHS B, nine seconds behind Tipsy Easy, determination and grit saw Rising Sun claim the honours.

Another islands race is coming up on the 8th of March for all four divisions, IRC and PHS.
